Saturday marked an exciting milestone for Bridlington Bay Archers as the club welcomed visitors to explore and enjoy its new practice ground, set within acres of peaceful, tree‑lined grassland behind Hilderthorpe School. The location offers a convenient and attractive base for the club’s experienced archers, enthusiastic juniors, and anyone in the community who’s curious about trying this engaging and rewarding sport.
Despite a touch of rain early on and a heavier downpour once the event had wrapped up; the weather stayed kind enough for a steady flow of visitors to step onto the shooting line. Guests of all ages had the chance to try archery at a range of targets, guided by friendly club members who were on hand throughout the day.
A special moment came when the town’s mayor, Mike Heslop‑Mullens, officially opened the range by cutting the blue ribbon. After the ceremony, he joined the shooting line himself, demonstrating a natural ability with a newly donated bow.
For anyone who couldn’t make the open day or for those who came along and want more; the club will be offering longer taster sessions throughout the year. These sessions are ideal for beginners looking to learn the basics or for returning archers wanting to regain their skills.
